Omar Abdullah Oath as AJK CM

Omar Abdullah Oath – According to the sources, Omar Abdullah has took the oath of AJ & K Chief Minister on Wednesday as become the new selected CM of Jammu State.

After taking oath by Omar Abdullah, he chose one of the party leaders i.e. Surender Chaudhry as Deputy to CM to make an inclusive government in the Valleey.

Moreover, Omar Abdullah is the first Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister from UT.

Elections in Jammu and Kashmir

According to sources, last AJK assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in the year 2014.

Due to the revoke of article 370 of Indian constitution, in August 2019, the Indian government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. This move brought unrest in the entire valley of Jammu and Kashmir.

Since then, there had been discussions about holding assembly elections in the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, but as of April 2024, these elections had not yet taken place.

District Development Council elections

Moreover, the last local body elections (District Development Council elections) were held in late 2020.
