Dana Cyclone Tracker – Cyclone Dana Live Updates: The Odisha state of India is currently under threat of a severe cyclone. The Government of India has evacuated the areas nearby the coastal belt to minimize the risk and loss due to expected DANA Cyclone.
Moreover, the cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall near the Puri and Sagar coasts in Odisha between October 24 and 25. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts in Odisha and West Bengal.

The low-pressure area, forecasted to develop into a cyclonic storm by October 23, is set to hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on October 24-25. IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in both states during this period.
Government Arrangements to Minimize Risks from DANA Cyclone
Government of India has already taken various precautionary measures to minimize the loss due to this DANA Cyclone. In response, the Odisha government has announced the closure of schools in coastal districts and initiated preparations for the 100% evacuation of people from high-risk areas. This is to ensure safety in regions expected to face maximum destruction from Cyclone Dana, according to a report by the Indian Express.
In this way. the IMD has predicted the storm will hit the Odisha-West Bengal coast this week. Although the exact landfall location remains uncertain, the IMD stated, “The system is very likely to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.”
The IMD bulletin also mentioned that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the north Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours. It is expected to move west-northwest and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over the east-central Bay of Bengal.
Moreover, IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra confirmed that the system is likely to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm, with parts of Odisha expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 23 onwards.
“Some coastal areas may receive up to 20 cm of rainfall on October 24-25. The intensity of rainfall could increase to 20-30 cm, and in some places, it may exceed 30 cm,” Mohapatra told a local TV channel in Bhubaneswar.
