How a Hurricane Forms and Strengthens
Hurricanes develop and intensify only when tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean encounter the right conditions for a sufficient duration. In this situation there comes a hurricane that is severe in its condition.
According to Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center who are closely monitoring this cyclone’s wind speed, which determines its classification. Once a storm reaches sustained winds of 39 mph for at least one minute, it is classified as a tropical storm and given a name. At 74 mph, it becomes a Category 1 hurricane, with classifications continuing up to Category 5. These categories of the storms are named according to the severity of the storms. The category 1 storm is less severe as compared to the category 5 hurricane.
These classifications are crucial for predicting potential risks and damage, allowing officials to issue warnings about the expected impacts of strong winds, waves, rain, and flooding when the storm makes landfall.
